It was couples’ night on Thursday, as Naomi Watts joined her husband Billy Crudup for the Venice Film Festival premiere of his new film, Jay Kelly.
Naomi floated down the carpet in a blush-toned Valentino strapless tulle gown, designed by Creative Director Alessandro Michele. The colour was soft and romantic, but it was Michele’s signature embellishments — scattered like confetti across the fabric — that really brought the gown to life. Without them, it risked slipping into “pretty, but forgettable.” With them, it became playful and whimsical.
Now, I know many of you looked at the oversized black velvet bow and immediately muttered “Why?” Trust me, I was right there with you at first.

But then Naomi posed with Billy, suddenly it clicked — her bow and his bow tie were speaking the same language. A subtle his-and-hers styling moment that, whether intentional or not, gave the couple’s appearance a sweet synergy.
As for Billy… let’s just say the tailoring on those trousers could use another pass. Still, with his wife glowing in Valentino, she’s an easy distraction.
